FASTENING ELEMENT FOR FASTENING A THIN SHEET IN A CONTAINER AND TOOL FOR SUCH FASTENING ELEMENT
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to a fastening element for fastening a thin plastic sheet in a container opening which fastening element is a profile made of a resilient material, comprising a main portion having a substantially plane underside and being thinner in a part of a middle portion than at ends of the main portion.
The invention further relates to a tool for inserting and/or removing a fastening element from a channel member.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
It is known to use thin plastics film, as a substitute for glass, to form large areas of single or multiple glazed transparent or opaque panels due to the new generation of highly durable plastics film material now on the market. Typical uses can be related to greenhouses, home extensions, and solar collectors.
Here the plastic film is thin compared to window glasses to which the plastic film is a substitute.
Thin plastic films are also used as a barrier or a so-called CA-curtain in reefer containers using Controlled Atmosphere during transport. Controlled Atmosphere can be provided in the container for example by use of a membrane module, where the membrane module provides a balance of gasses, normally between the content of O2 and CO2 in the container.

In order to be able to provide an efficient control or the content of the gasses it is important that the container is sufficiently sealed in such a way that there are only minor leaks, preferably as little as possible and ideally no leaks at all. Here the doors of the container can be less gastight than the rest of the container due to handling during transport which might cause damage to the sealing of the doors.
Therefore containers using Controlled Atmosphere are provided with a further sealing of the opening of the container closed by the doors. Such sealing can be a CA-curtain, which in principle is a large plastic sheet sealed to the inner circumference of the door opening of the container.
Along the inner circumference at the door opening of the container a channel member is provided. The channel member comprises means for retaining a sheet or plastic film by engagement with a locking strip. The sheet or plastic film is positioned between the channel member and the locking strip.
From US 3893212 is known a device for making lap joints for plastic film and the like, where a flexible channel has in-turned overhanging side edges overhanging the base. A flexible tape having beads formed along each edge, which beads engage under the overhanging edges of the channel when installed. A plastic film or the like is laid over the channel whereupon the tape or locking strip is engaged over the film and forced into engagement within the channel.
This method has been used to seal the door end of a CA-container.
A drawback is that when using such a flexible tape to seal the plastic sheet or film a tool should be used to insert the flexible tape, but it is not unusual that the person who is securing the plastic film to the flexible channel by the flexible tape uses a screwdriver or a similar tool to press the flexible tape into
DK 2016 71022 A1 the flexible channel. Hereby it is most likely that the screwdriver or the like will slip and following penetrate the plastic film.
US 3893212 also show a tool for insertion of the flexible tape into the flexible channel. The tool is a kind of roller having a protruding thin edge. When using the tool, this thin edge will be in direct contact with the plastic film during insertion of the flexible tape into the flexible channel and thereby constituting a risk of damaging or penetrating the plastic film.
Another tool for inserting the flexible tape into the flexible channel and thereby sealing the container by securing the plastic film in an airtight manner can be a tool where the flexible tape is inserted in one end and where the tool gradually bends the flexible tape into a more and more rounded configuration. When the flexible tape is locally (when leaving the tool) shaped more or less like a half tube, it is convenient to press the plastic film together with the flexible tape into the flexible channel, where the flexible tape after leaving the tool will try to obtain its original flat configuration and thereby retaining the plastic film in the flexible channel in a sealing manner.
Also when using an appropriate tool for inserting the flexible tape into the flexible channel, the flexible tape occasionally slips out of the flexible channel in corner areas or even in straight sections along the container opening. Then it is necessary to remove the flexible tape completely from the flexible channel and start all over with the tool inserting the flexible tape into the flexible channel.
In case the flexible tape slips out of the flexible channel, the person who is securing the plastic film to the flexible channel by the flexible tape also in this situation often takes the easy way out and uses a screwdriver or a similar tool to press the flexible tape back into the flexible channel, hereby increasing the risk of penetrating the plastic film with the inappropriate tool.

The aforementioned drawbacks can be avoided by a new design of a flexible tape in shape of a new flexible profile and an associated tool for inserting the flexible profile into a flexible channel for fastening and sealing a plastic film between the flexible tape and the flexible channel.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The flexible profile is manufactured from a plastic and composed of a main portion which is substantially plane on one side, being an underside of the profile to face the plastic film or CA-curtain.
The main portion is thinner in a part of a middle portion than at its ends. On an upper side the main portion near the ends is provided with extending flexible protrusions or side beads, which side beads extend substantially perpendicular from the upper side of the main portion, which side beads extend in longitudinally direction along a length of the flexible profile.
The main portion being thinner in a part of the middle portion than at its ends makes the middle portion, and thereby also the main portion, more flexible around an axis running lengthwise of the flexible profile.
Having such side beads makes it possible to press the flexible profile into the flexible channel by a tool without the tool touching the CA-curtain.
In an embodiment the side beads, at a distance from the main portion at their free end, curves towards a direction pointing away from the centre of the middle portion.
At the upper side of the main portion, the flexible profile is provided with a longitudinally extending protrusion or centre bead positioned at the middle portion substantially with same distance from the ends of the main portion.

In an embodiment the centre bead is shaped as a “T” with the base point fixed to the middle portion of the flexible profile.
In another embodiment the centre bead is shaped as a “Y” with the base point fixed to the middle portion of the flexible profile.
The distances from the ends of the main portion described above should be understood as distances seen from an end of the profile.
The centre bead extends longitudinally along the length of the flexible profile.
The ends of the main portion of the flexible profile retain the flexible profile in a flexible channel in shape of a corresponding profile with a base between two upstanding sides having in-turned overhanging side edges overhanging the base. A mutual distance between the in-turned overhanging side edges is less than a width of the flexible profile.
In an embodiment the width of the flexible profile is larger than a largest inwards distance between sides inside the flexible channel. Hereby is achieved that the flexible profile can fasten and seal a flexible thin plastic sheet to the flexible channel.
The purpose of the centre bead on the middle portion is to obtain a higher strength in the material in the middle portion to avoid plastic deformation of the middle portion. In case plastic deformation occurs, this will cause deficient fastening and sealing of the plastic film to the flexible channel. Further the plastic material from which the flexible profile is manufactured will change colour into a milky white appearance, which is not desirable.
The centre bead on the middle portion can also be used for removing the flexible profile from the flexible channel by inserting the “T” or “Y” of the
DK 2016 71022 A1 centre bead into a corresponding track in a tool. The “T” or “Y” of the centre bead can be inserted into the corresponding track of the tool at the end of the flexible profile or the tool can be inserted anywhere along the flexible profile by having a slide-able pawl on the tool allowing insertion of the centre bead when the pawl is pushed away and when pushed back in place, the pawl secures the T” or “Y” of the centre bead running in the track of the tool.
Hereby it is possible to use the tool for pulling out the flexible profile from the flexible channel and to release the plastic film forming the CA-curtain for access to the container or in case the CA-curtain is torn away from the container opening, releasing the residues of the CA-curtain in order to place a new CA-curtain in the container opening.
The tool can be applied to the flexible profile in a flat area between and close to the side beads.
In the embodiment where the flexible profile is provided with a centre bead, the tool can be applied at one side or the other side of the centre bead, between the centre bead and the side bead.
Further embodiments and advantages are disclosed below in the description and in the claims.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Now convenient embodiments of the invention will be described.
A fastening element 1 is provided for fastening a CA-curtain in shape of a thin plastic sheet 10 in a container opening (not shown). The fastening element 1 is a flexible profile 1 which is made of a resilient material and comprises a main portion 2 with a substantially plane underside 3, the main portion 2 being thinner in a middle portion 4 than at its ends 5.
On an upper side 6 the main portion 2 near the ends 5 is provided with extending flexible protrusions or side beads 7, which side beads 7 extend substantially perpendicular from the upper side 6 of the main portion 2 at
DK 2016 71022 A1 each side of the flexible profile 1. The side beads 7 extend in a longitudinal direction along a length of the flexible profile 1.
The side beads 7 can in an embodiment at a free end 8 of the side beads 7 be curved in a direction pointing away from a centre of the middle portion 4 at a distance from the main portion 2.
In another embodiment of the flexible profile 1, at the upper side 6 of the main portion 2, the flexible profile 1 can be provided with a longitudinally extending protrusion or centre bead 9 which is positioned at the middle portion 4 substantially with same distance from the ends 5 of the main portion

The centre bead 9 can be shaped as a “T” with base point fixed to the middle portion 4 of the flexible profile 1.
In an alternative embodiment the centre bead 9 can be shaped as a “Y” with base point fixed to the middle portion 4 of the flexible profile 1.
The side beads 7 forms a kind of buffer or barrier in order to apply a tool 20 for insertion of the flexible profile into a flexible or even a rigid channel 11, which channel 11 is provided with a longitudinal trough with a bottom base 12 between two upstanding sides 13 having in-turned overhanging side edges 14 overhanging the base 12. A mutual distance between the in-turned overhanging side edges 14 is less than a width of the flexible profile 1.
Even though the flexible profile 1 can be inserted into a rigid channel 11 as well as in a flexible channel 11, a flexible channel 11 is preferred in order to prevent the channel 11 from tearing or perforating the CA-curtain 10.

The side beads 7 prevents the tool 20 from contact with the CA-curtain 10 when pressing the tool 20 against the flexible profile 1 in order to press the flexible profile 1 into engagement with the flexible channel 11. The free ends 8 of the side beads 7 is provided in a length so that they extend above the overhanging side edges 14, when the flexible profile 1 is entered in fastened position in the flexible channel 11.
In the embodiment where the free end 8 of the side beads 7 are curved in a direction pointing away from a centre of the middle portion 4 at a distance from the main portion 2, the free ends 8 are configured for extending around or at least partly around the overhanging side edges 13 of the sides 13 of the flexible channel 11.
For more convenient insertion of the flexible profile 1 in the flexible channel 11 a tool 20 is provided. The tool comprises a handle 21 which handle 21 can be provided with friction means 22 in order to provide a firm grip for a user of the tool 20. In an end of the tool 20, opposite the handle 21, the tool 20 is provided with a rectangular disc shaped upright portion 23 having rounded corners 24
In an embodiment the handle 21 of the tool 20 is provided with friction means in shape of a number of cut-outs 22.
The flexible profile 1 according to the invention in combination with the tool 20 makes it possible that the tool 20 can be operated by right as well as by left hand and since it is possible to relief pressure to the flexible profile 1 from the tool 20 and shift hand and or position when applying the flexible profile 1 to the flexible channel retaining and sealing the container opening with the CA-curtain, a more expedient handling is achieved.

Claims (10)
[1] 1. A fastening element for fastening a thin plastic sheet in a container opening which fastening element is a flexible profile (1) made of a resilient material, comprising a main portion (2) having a substantially plane underside (3) and being thinner in a part of a middle portion (4) than at ends (5) of the main portion (2), characterised in that the main portion (2) on an upper side (6) near the ends (5) is provided with extending flexible protrusions or side beads (7), which side beads (7) extend substantially perpendicular from the upper side (6) of the main portion (2), which side beads (7) extend in longitudinally direction along a length of the flexible profile (1).
[2] 2. A fastening element according to claim 1, characterised in that the side beads (7) at a distance from the main portion (2) at their free end (8) curves towards a direction pointing away from a centre of the middle portion (4).

A fastening element according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that at the upper side (6) of the main portion (2), the flexible profile (1) is provided with a longitudinally extending protrusion or centre bead (9) positioned at the middle portion (4) substantially with same distance from the ends (5) of the main portion (2).
[4] 4. A fastening element according to claim 3, characterised in that the centre bead (9) is shaped as a “T” with base point fixed to the middle portion (4) of the flexible profile (1).
[5] 5. A fastening element according to claim 3, characterised in that the centre bead (9) is shaped as a Ύ” with base point fixed to the middle portion (4) of the flexible profile (1).
